Not your average Art Gallery.
How it came to be!
I met Thays França as a competitor in an art competition in 2019. Over the course of two years we would run into each other at art events or community gatherings. As friendly acquaintances and like minded artists, we were always happy to engage in small talk and artistic conversations. Little did we know that a deeper friendship and partnership was forming.
Early in 2021, an unexpected opportunity arose to lease a commercial space that had already been set up as an art co-op. At first, neither of us was interested in starting a new business venture, me close to retiring and Thays already owner of her own small art gallery and a very busy woman. We soon discovered common ground and a strong love for the arts and the community of Ormond Beach. We felt the sudden departure of the art co-op would leave a void in the community would affect the emerging art scene in our area. It didn’t take long before a plan was formed and Art Spotlight was in the works.
It took almost a year to renovate and set up but in July 2022, the dream came true, and Art Spotlight was officially open to the public. Our short mission goal is to “Create, Collaborate, and Elevate” the arts and local artists in the Ormond Beach area and beyond.
From the beginning, Jon Benjamin was added to the mix. Aside from bringing the perfect balance to the high energy combo Thays and I can be, he was a perfect fit, transitioning from our family faux finish business. Jon brings the perfect balance our sometimes over the top energy.
To round out our team, Barbette found her way to us and we couldn’t imagine running the gallery without her. Aside from her calm and steady demeanor, computer and proofing skills, she is a crazy good baker and cook, we always look forward to the treats she makes!
The Crew; Thays, Barbette, TJ, Teri and Jon, being goofy and having fun!
